Blue Grass Tours highlights, thanks and “gives back” to the Thoroughbred industry through upcoming Seattle Slew Birthday Celebration Tour.
Kentucky will be celebrating the Year of the Horse in 2010: Sales, Racing Meets, 2010 Kentucky Derby, the Alltech World Equestrian Games, and the Breeders Cup – the eyes of the world will be on Kentucky throughout the year. Kicking off the year as Breeding Season begins, Blue Grass Tours is sponsoring a Seattle Slew Birthday Celebration Tour celebrating the life and legacy of a champion. Proceeds for the Seattle Slew Tour will be donated to the Thoroughbred community in honor of Kentucky’s signature industry. In 1977, Seattle Slew won the Triple Crown by winning the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes and was also named Horse of the Year in 1977 and 1978. This horse with the iron will was the only undefeated Triple Crown winner and went on to become a champion sire. When he died, May 7, 2002, on the 25th anniversary of his Kentucky Derby win, he was the last living Triple Crown Winner. The tour will begin at 1:00 p. m. on February 15, departing from Fasig-Tipton, where Seattle Slew sold in 1975 for $17,500. In 1977, Seattle Slew earned the Triple Crown by winning the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes and was named Horse of the Year in 1977 and 1978. Join us on February 15, 2010 to remember this champion sire on his 36th Birthday. The tour departs from Fasig-Tipton where Seattle Slew sold for $17,500 in 1975. Visit Cobra, Three Chimneys, and Hill-n-Dale Farms, featuring “celebrity” equine guests from Seattle Slew’s past. Return to Fasig-Tipton to toast this champion and hear Seattle Slew’s “friends” reminisce about his life and career.
Following the tour, a reception will be held at Fasig-Tipton where supporters will join Blue Grass Tours in giving back to the Thoroughbred industry through several of its charities: Blue Horse Charities, The Disabled Jockeys Fund, Old Friends and the Seattle Slew Spinal Cord Research Fund. Committed partners are Fasig-Tipton, Cobra Farm, Three Chimneys, Hill-n-Dale and Equus Run Vineyards. Contact information: Blue Grass Tours, 859-252-5744 or www.bluegrasstours.com
